The 1823 Artisan Guild hosted an Art Camp for children who were in kindergarten through 5th grade last year on the mornings of July 11-15 and wrapped up the week with a show of the works they created on Friday. Parents and other family members and fans were able to view the art and a slide show of the week and enjoy refreshments.

The theme for the camp, which was directed by certified teachers Misty Sparks and April Hendricks, was “Commotion in the Ocean.” The campers worked with a variety of media making art that embodied fish, turtles, jellyfish and other ocean inhabitants. The projects included a sea turtle painting, clay sea turtles, sand casting, rock painting, clay jewelry, straw fish, black glue fish, seahourse collage, crab magnets and name cards.

Just before the Art Show they were decorating the sidewalks outside the gallery with chalk messages welcoming the visitors and directing them to the gallery. The show included watercolors, pastels, acrylics and three-dimensional are.

The artist-campers featured at the Art Show were Sawyer Bass, Mallory Couture, McKenzie Hood, Sadie Robbins, Zoey Snow, Spencer Skies, Serenity Simmons, Sophia Smith, Loch Weiser and Austin Windham.
