They were thought to be the largest ensemble cast in the world. Here's what they're up to now.

It's been more than three years since the final episode of Game of Thrones aired – notably to mixed reactions – and the cast has since moved on to greener pastures, both professionally and personally.

There's also a whole new cast for the prequel series House of the Dragon.

When the show's first episode premiered on April 17, 2011, for a lot of the ensemble, it was their first major role in the industry, but almost a decade on-screen as Westeros' finest – and not quite fine – has propelled them to bona fide stardom.

Here's what the cast is up to now.

(Warning: Game of Thrones spoilers lie within.)

Pedro Pascal had an extensive television – and somewhat less extensive film – career prior to being cast as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones, and when he was cast, he was already a massive fan of the series so was ecstatic to join.

Pascal's birth name is actually José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal, and he didn't always go by Pedro Pascal, at times using Pedro Balmaceda or Alexander Pascal. But after his mother died by suicide in 1999, he began using her surname (Pascal) professionally to honour her, and also because he said Americans had difficulty pronouncing his first surname, Balmaceda.

It's The Mandalorian!

Following Oberyn Martell's bloody death in Season 4, Pedro Pascal secured a spot as real-life DEA agent Javier Peña in Netflix's Narcos, which led to further recognition – but not as much as his Star Wars role.

Since 2019, Pascal, now 47, has been The Mandalorian/Din Djarin in the eponymous Star Wars series, and has also made appearances in The Book of Boba Fett.

He also has starred in Wonder Woman 1984 and Kingsman: The Golden Circle and will be playing a lead role in television's The Last of Us, set to be released in 2023.

Playing the paragon of honour and virtue, Sean Bean's one-season run as patriarch Ned Stark set off a series of events so unfortunate, some fans are still recovering from it 10 years later.

By the time he was cast, the actor had already made a name for himself in Hollywood, taking on roles alongside Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Pierce Brosnan in the GoldenEye installment of the James Bond franchise, to name a few.

Bean's casting as Ned Stark set off some quiet red flags among those who closely follow his work, as he's known among film buffs for having had more than 20 on-screen deaths – with Boromir's on-screen death by arrow in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring having scarred Ringers enough for a lifetime.

Ned Stark's on-screen beheading at the end of Season 1 left just as much, if not more, of an impact and set the tone for the rest of the series.

Since his brief stint forewarning the coming of winter, Bean hasn't slowed down, having starred in 20 films and 18 television projects in the last 10 years alone.

Now 63, Bean's next big project will see him play Alman Kiddo (Mitsumasa Kido), the lead role in Knights of the Zodiac, the release date of which is at yet undisclosed.

As for his personal life, the actor married for the fifth time in 2017, tying the knot with Ashley Moore on June 30 after a three-year-long engagement.

He's also been in some hot water lately for comments made about intimacy co-ordinators on sets.

Northern Irish actress Michelle Fairley portrayed matriarch Catelyn Stark for three seasons, and although she had a prolific television, theatre and film career prior to her casting, her relatively low-profile personal life meant Game of Thrones was the first time a lot of the world got to know her.

Fairley's early appearances were in British television dramas such as Saracen, The Bill, Holby City and Casualty. A year before she was cast as Catelyn, Fairley took over the role of Hermione Granger's mother from Heather Bleasdale in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, after which she took a three-year break from films and other television shows as she filmed Game of Thrones.

The Suits star did not take a break, however, from theatre, starring in 2011's Remembrance Day as Sveta at the Royal Court Theatre in London.

Immediately after Catelyn Stark's gruesome on-screen death in Season 3 of Game of Thrones, Michelle Fairley joined the cast of Suits as Ava Hessington.

Her next film project was 2013's The Invisible Woman, which preceded a slew of projects including 2014's television event 24: Live Another Day and 2015's film In the Heart of the Sea.

In an interview with The Telegraph in 2015, Fairley revealed that in 2012, she made the decision to separate from her boyfriend of seven years – and has not had any known partners since then.

Fairley's most recent project was in 2020's Gangs of London, where she played the main character Marian Wallace. She is also set to star in Bridgerton's prequel series.

Robb Stark was Richard Madden's breakout role – prior to his casting, the Scottish star said he was broke and was considering moving back in to live with his parents to make ends meet.

Initially joining Paisley-based PACE Youth Theatre at the age of 11 in an effort to overcome his shyness, Madden's skills for bringing fictional facsimiles to life were eventually recognised, and in his three-season run as the Stark House's first attempt at an heir, he also starred in a two-part television drama Birdsong (2012) and a 2011 short film, Strays.

Game of Thrones is but a gleam in the eyes of hardcore fans, as Richard Madden has made a name for himself away from the fantasy series.

After his 2013 exit, Madden played Prince Kit opposite Lily James' Cinderella in Disney's revival Cinderella (2015), and lead 2018's political thriller series Bodyguard as Police Sergeant David Budd.

With 2019 came significant roles as John Reid in Rocketman – opposite Taron Egerton's Elton John – and as Lieutenant Joseph Blake in 1917.

2021 saw Madden take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao's Eternals, where he played an Superman-like immortal Ikaris, in an ensemble cast including Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie. He's also starring in Anthony and Joe Russo's new series Citadel, which is currently filming.

As for his personal life, which has been subject to much speculation – particularly when it comes to his relationships and sexuality – Madden remains tight-lipped, telling the New York Times in 2019, "I just keep my personal life personal."

Having been a member of Warwickshire-based Playbox Theatre Company since the age of three, Sophie Turner was primed for her casting as future Queen of the North Sansa Stark at the age of 14 – a role she only auditioned for at her drama teacher's encouragement.

Turner's hair is naturally blonde, and for the first six seasons she dyed it auburn for the screen, though she started wearing wigs in Season 7. Throughout her first two years on the set of Game of Thrones, Turner had a tutor, though after achieving five GCSE A-grades and four Bs – one of those Bs being in Drama – at 16, she no longer required one.

The now-26-year-old made her Silver Screen debut in 2013's Another Me, breaking even further into Hollywood when she joined the X-Men franchise as Jean Grey/Phoenix with 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, a role she reprised in 2019's Dark Phoenix.

Just over two weeks before the final episode of Game of Thrones aired in 2019, Sophie Turner wed singer Joe Jonas in a surprise ceremony in Las Vegas.

The couple had been dating since 2016, and were engaged in October 2017. Following the intimate United States-based ceremony, Turner legally changed her surname to Jonas, and the couple held a second fairytale wedding ceremony almost two months later in Paris.

The Barely Lethal star was seen in two television projects – Survive and Home Movie: The Princess Bride – in 2020, before giving birth to daughter Willa Jonas in July of that year. Two years later, Turner and Jonas welcomed their second daughter.

2021 saw Turner return to the small screen, though not physically – she voiced Princess Charlotte in HBO's controversial series The Prince. She also starred in a main role in 2022's The Staircase.

Like her on-screen sister, Maisie Williams – born Margaret Constance Williams – began her acting career upon being cast as warrior Arya Stark at the age of 12. At 14, she left school before taking her final exams, in part due to struggling to attend a regular school when starring in Game of Thrones, and also partly to pursue more acting.

Williams is the youngest of four siblings, and was raised by her mother and step-father in the village of Clutton, Somerset. Once her acting career took off, Williams' mother gave up her job to support her daughter.

During her eight-season reign as what a lot of viewers regarded as an anti-heroine, Williams also starred in multiple other projects, notably as Ashildr in Doctor Who (2015), and in 2017's Mary Shelley and 2018's Then Came you (2018).

The Heatstroke actress is also an entrepreneur, launching a social media app, named Daisie, specifically designed to connect artists and creators to showcase their work and network, in 2018.

Now 25, Maisie Williams' latest project is television's Pistol (2022), the six-episode biopic about the Sex Pistols, in which Williams played the real-life punk rock icon Jordan, also known as Pamela Rooke.

On the personal front, Williams has been dating Reuben Selby for roughly four years, and in 2019, they started making outings on the fashion scene wearing co-ordinated outfits.

Selby, a fashion designer, co-designed Williams' dress for the Emmys in 2019, and Williams also collaborated with Selby on his sustainable genderless fashion line, which debuted at Paris Fashion Week in 2020.

The couple currently live together in rural southeast England.

Isaac Hempstead Wright was only 12 when he was cast as Bran Stark in the show's first season, and though it was his breakout role, he had starred in commercials previously.

The Surrey-born star actually had no interest in acting, but he joined a drama club in order to avoid playing football on Saturday mornings during the cold months, and a celebrity was born.

Who has a better story than Bran Stark? Literally anyone else.

Isaac Hempstead Wright even agreed with this, telling Entertainment Weekly in 2019 that when he was handed his final script for Game of Thrones – which sees Bran Stark take the Iron Throne – he thought it was a joke.

"I genuinely thought it was a joke script and that showrunners [David Benioff and D.B. Weiss] sent to everyone a script with their own character [ending] up on the Iron Throne," he said at the time.

After his time on the show came to a close, the actor starred in Voyagers in 2021, but has kept a relatively low profile since.

The youngest of the whole ensemble cast, Art Parkinson was cast as Rickon Stark when he was only 10 years old.

He was banned from watching Game of Thrones by his parents due to the show's graphic nature, aside from scenes that were related to him.

Parkinson also admitted in 2015 he was put off watching the show after seeing a three-year-old get their throat slit in one episode, but in 2016 said he had begun watching.

Now 20, Parkinson keeps a relatively low profile, like his on-screen brother.

After his character was killed off, Parkinson starred in the films I Kill Giants and Zoo in 2017, and in The Belly of the Whale in 2018.

He also recently played Rob Armstrong in ITV's The Bay from 2019 to 2021.

Kit Harington's turn as the brooding Jon Snow was his breakthrough role, though he actually made his acting debut in the lead role of Albert Narracott in the West End's War Horse two years prior.

Harington met his future wife Rose Leslie on the set of Game of Thrones in 2011, and the couple married in 2018, nine months after announcing their engagement.

Leslie played Ygritte, a Wildling woman who Harington's on-screen persona fell in love with and later betrayed.

Throughout his time on Game of Thrones, Harington starred in films such as Pompeii and How to Train Your Dragon 2, and series such as Gunpowder (which he also created and executive produced).

Following the show's final season airing, Harington checked into a mental health and wellness facility to seek support for "some personal issues."

He also starred in an episode of Modern Love in 2021, and joined his on-screen cousin in Eternals that same year.

Harington and his wife Rose Leslie share a son, who was first spotted in February 2021.

Born and raised in Scotland, Rose Leslie's role as the Wildling Ygritte meant she had to spend a lot of time in Northern Ireland for filming.

Leslie is related to Frederick Weld, the sixth prime minister of New Zealand, through her mother, who is his great-granddaughter.

Prior to being cast as Ygritte, Leslie featured in a plethora of theatre productions and notably, she played Gwen Dawson on Downton Abbey.
