NISKAYUNA — Environment One Corporation is planning a two-phase expansion of its Balltown Road facility and a 16% increase in its workforce.

The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority announced the move Thursday, a day after the Metroplex Board unanimously approved a phased tax reduction on the newly constructed space and sales tax exemptions on the materials needed to construct it.

The proposed first phase of E/One’s expansion entails a 27,250-square-foot addition built over the next two years at a cost of $6 million to house a research and development demonstration area and additional manufacturing space, Metroplex said in a news release.

The proposed second phase would be a 5,595-square-foot expansion of warehouse and loading dock space, carried out in 2024-2025 at a cost of $2.2 million.

The company expects to add 30 people to its current 180-person workforce over the next five years as a result of the expansion projects, Metroplex said.

E/One’s headquarters is co-located with manufacturing space at 2773 Balltown Road, near the former headquarters of SI Group and future headquarters of Momentive Performance Materials.

E/One is part of Precision Castparts Corp., and has two major business segments: non-gravity sewer systems and performance and safety equipment for electrical utilities.

The sewer systems business — equipment that pumps waste through terrain that is hilly or otherwise challenging for traditional downhill sewer lines — is the focus of the expansion plans.

Niskayuna Town Supervisor Jaime Puccioni said in a news release:  “Located right across the street from the new Momentive headquarters, we are thrilled to see this expansion by E/One. We continue to work closely with the county’s economic development team at Metroplex to keep this tech corridor growing in Niskayuna.”
