Flames from a propane tank fire could be seen for miles in Waterville early Friday. BSPT Pipe Fittings

The Waterville and Oakland fire departments were called to the Dead River Shell station on KMD around 5:15 a.m.
When they arrived, they discovered the fire at a propane filling station, which was being fueled by a 1250-gallon propane tank.
Officials say a tractor used for plowing struck a fill hose, which then pulled from the pump station and caused a leak from the supply line.
They believe damaged electrical wires then ignited the leaking propane.
Fire crews were able to keep the tank cool to prevent it from possibly rupturing. Once technicians arrived, they were able to shut off the propane supply from the tank.
The fire is being considered accidental.
